When you think of Obsidian Entertainment, what jumps to mind? Chances are, it's not Pillars of Eternity or The Outer Worlds, but either Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II as its trailblazing debut or Fallout: New Vegas as an ambitious Fallout spin-off.

While Knights of the Old Republic 3 never came to pass and the rumours have come to nothing, the whispers of Obsdian returning for New Vegas 2 continue to spin the roulette wheel. Now, a previously unannounced game from the developer has us placing it all on red.

Obsidian is hiring for a new game

We know Obsidian is working on both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 under Microsoft, and although neither has been given a release date, there are hints that a third game is in the works.

Posting on Twitter @IdleSloth84_ pointed out that Obsidian is looking to recruit a Senior Unity Developer for its team. The reason this gives the nod to a third game is that Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 are using Unreal Engine 5, whereas a project-based listing for Unity is something completely different.

Although the Twitterverse soon went into overdrive that we'll finally get the long-rumoured New Vegas 2, critics pointed out that because it's developed with Unity, it may be a smaller release.

Unity is usually used for titles like Obsidian's Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, which seemingly debunks Fallout: New Vegas 2 before we could even get excited. We guess you'll have to stick to those cryptic teases of something New Vegas in the new-gen Fallout 4

Will we ever see New Vegas 2?

It's no secret that the Obsidian team have been vocal about both a New Vegas remaster and a full-blown sequel. Game Director Josh Sawyer has revealed where he'd like a New Vegas sequel to be set, while players have put their own New Vegas expansion in Fallout 4.

Away from a sequel, developers Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky worked on 2010's game and said a New Vegas remaster would be awesome. That's all well and good, but with Obsidian shooting down the idea in 2022 because it was too busy, that makes sense if there's this third game on the way.

We've heard a lot about something related to New Vegas filling the void until Fallout 5 eventually releases, but if it's on the way, don't count on it coming from Obsidian.
