If you're a fan of the Metal Gear games, then you're in luck. After it looked like Konami had waved the white flag on its stealth series, fans were happy (but not surprised) that May's Sony Showcase announced Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1.

However, after years of silence following Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and 2018's Metal Gear Survive missing Hideo Kojima, it seems the wait has been worth it. It sounds like Konami has a few more tricks up its sleeve, with Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 already leaked.

What's in the Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 2?

As the name suggests, many thought Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 was the first of a planned multi-release library. After all, The Last of Us Part 1 remake is clearly cueing the eventual release of a sequel. The first collection isn't even out yet, but it sounds like a second one is already on the way.

Vol. 1 consisted of the first five mainline games, so it makes sense Vol. 2 would pick up where we left off. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 was apparently leaked via the Konami site and has since been verified by sources like IGN.

A trio of terrific titles are on the way to the Metalverse, with the following making up the mythical Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2:

  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
  • Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Importantly, this would free Guns of the Patriots from the PlayStation 3 where it's currently locked. With the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 poised to release on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch, many will be able to appreciate the 2008 title for the first time ever.

What's next for Metal Gear?

For many, Guns of the Patriots would be enough to warrant a release all of its own on other platforms. Still, we'll take a collection of games wherever we can get them. Peace Walker is an odd one because it was originally made for the PlayStation Portable before a wider release as part of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

As for The Phantom Pain, it marks a milestone for the franchise as Hideo Kojima's final game at Konami before he headed off to Kojima Productions. With the future of the series unclear, it's held as the last "true" Metal Gear game and is still a fan favourite.

As Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 comes with a slew of extras like accompanying guides, we'd expect Vol. 2 to do the same. The first collection is out on October 24, and while there's no release for the mythical Vol. 2, Konami would be wise to announce it soon - especially if leaks are already doing the rounds.
