Magic The Gathering celebrated its 30th Anniversary in style at Gen Con, with a 50-minute panel diving into the card game's upcoming roadmap through 2024 and all the way to 2025.

While 2024 will see the return of fan favourites like Ravnica and Modern Horizons, it'll also see the arrival of Fallout-themed Commander Decks, while 2025 will see a tentpole booster release with a Final Fantasy crossover release.

Final Fantasy and Fallout come to Magic The Gathering

Magic The Gathering's Universes Beyond has already rolled through Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who, but 2025 will see a Final Fantasy crossover which will encompass each main Final Fantasy game so far.

As much as we'd like a cardboard Clive Rosfield in our collection, we're excited to see him do battle with the likes of Cloud Strife and Squall Leonheart for card supremacy - and our affections, of course.

The set will also come to Magic The Gathering: Arena when it launches in 2025. While the set had previously been announced alongside an Assassin's Creed crossover, this was the first concrete news about the Final Fantasy set.

As for Assassin's Creed, Wizards did share some fresh key art for the project, which you can see below. The set is slated for July 2024, and it'll feature cards from "all Assassin's Creed games released to date".

There are even more videogame crossovers coming, however, as Bethesda Softworks is also working with Wizards of the Coast on Fallout-themed Commander Decks.

While we initially thought Elder Scrolls would make a better fit, we're excited to roam the wasteland tackling super mutants and radiation.

No details were given on the Commander Decks, but they'll launch in March 2024.

Magic The Gathering's 2024 roadmap

However, it's not all Universes Beyond, as Wizards' panel also revealed what's coming in 2024 - albeit without firm release dates.

Q1 2024 will see the arrival of Ravnica Remastered, remastering the 2005 collection with cards from each Ravnica block. Also in Q1, players can solve grisly crimes in Murders at Karlov Manor - a top-down murder mystery.

There's more sleuthing to be done, with a Ravnica edition of Clue arriving, too, with a standalone board game.

Q2 of 2024 is all about the villains, with Outlaws of Thunder Junction offering a western-themed frontier fantasy, followed by Bloomburrow in Q3 which could cause whiplash - it's focused on all things cute and adorable.

Finally, Q4 2024 will bring Duskmourn: House of Horror to the game, with a haunted mansion inspired by eighties horror media. Here's hoping for a Universes Beyond with Freddy and Jason Commander Decks, eh?
