All Starfield romance options we know about so far

While the number of planets might take your fancy overall, the various Starfield romance options could also pull at your heart strings. While romance is not new to Bethesda games, the approach to relationships in Starfield appears to be more complex than ever before.

Will Starfield have romance options?

While we don't currently have any specifics about the romanceable NPCs that you'll be able to interact with, it has thankfully been confirmed that Starfield will have romance options.

In a recent interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Starfield's director Todd Howard gave a few details on what to expect for the game's romantic escapades. 

According to Howard, while there are a vast number of standard companions in the game, there are currently four companions that offer 'more complex relationships' than any previous Bethesda game.

What this actually boils down to is a number of things, but one of the key features appears to be a move away from a binary like/dislike system that can leave NPCs feeling a bit hollow. Howard remarks that these romanceable NPCs will afford complexities like still being in love with you but frustrated at something that you have done.

The overall ethos appears to be allowing players to feel a connection to the characters they meet, and become proud of the relationships that they carve within Starfield. Instead of it just being a bar that fills up or decreases linearly, Starfield should hopefully feel more dynamic, responsive, and reflective of the relationship as a whole.
