There's a brand-new galaxy to explore on the way as Bethesda and Microsoft blast off with Starfield. The sci-fi shooter is tipped to be one of this year's biggest games, and after what feels like far too long, it's a first-party Xbox game that should leave PlayStation owners 'green' with envy.

As well as boasting a whole solar system of 1,000 planets to explore, Starfield has the ability to craft your own ships, pick some unusual romance options in space, and even pull off a sandwich heist. It's pretty standard fodder for Bethesda, albeit with a space-age twist.

Does Starfield have cross-platform support?

Although it was previously leaked, it has now been confirmed that Starfield will be part of the Xbox Play Anywhere initiative. This means you can buy the title on either PC or Xbox, with cross-save and cross-progression letting you flip between the two.

As Microsoft attempts to rival Sony's first-party exclusives, Starfield is the latest AAA title to make the most of Xbox Play Anywhere. It's an underrated feature, but after it was confirmed on Twitter, it's clear to see it's a popular one. Your progress isn't the only thing transferred, as Achievements and DLC purchases are also synced.

For those struggling to decide whether to buy Starfield on Xbox Series or PC, Microsoft answered the question for you. It's handy for those who might like to game on the sofa and then move to the bedroom or go on the move via Cloud Gaming to play elsewhere. However, it might not be all it's cracked up to be.

Xbox Play Anywhere isn't all it's cracked up to be on PC

The addition of Xbox Play Anywhere for Starfield is a definite bonus, however, it's locking out those who've bought on Steam. Added to this, players are staying they'll stick with the Steam version - rendering the Microsoft Store obsolete in this instance.

It's all because Steam's stability and support are notoriously better when it comes to mods. Apart from modding Shrek into outer space, a lot of you will be buying Starfield on PC to quickly check out what fans have been able to mod in terms of graphical improvements.

If you aren't that bothered by mods, you might as well buy Starfield directly from Microsoft to make the most of Play Anywhere. Then again, with Windows PC having cornered the market, we'd be pretty peeved if the gaming giant made you buy two versions of Starfield to play on its hardware.
