Sounds like there's still more mischief to be made, as there are real hints Avalanche Software is getting ready to open the Marauder's Map for a Hogwarts Legacy sequel. Despite the Wizarding World being in turmoil due to its creator, there's no denying Hogwarts Legacy's sales were laughing all the way to the goblin bank.

We've only just put our wands down on the main game, and while that Quidditch DLC has seemingly been grounded in favour of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, Avalanche would be foolish to leave the IP here. Forget a Triwizard Tournament DLC, how about a full-blown Hogwarts Legacy 2?

Disclaimer: While the creator of the Harry Potter franchise was not directly involved in the creation of Hogwarts Legacy, their comments on social media around transgender people are hurtful and dangerous given the size of their platform.

We’d implore you to read our explainer of the controversy so far, and consider supporting trans rights charities where possible.

Is Avalanche Software working on Hogwarts Legacy 2?

As spotted by GameRant, Avalanche Software is hiring for its next game. The listing asks for a Software Engineer to work on an "unannounced AAA console title." The ideal candidate will have to relocate to Salt Lake City, proving this is a pretty big deal.

The wording suggests this isn't simply a Hogwarts Legacy DLC, while the fact it doesn't mention a new IP (like these listings often do) has sparked hopes of Hogwarts Legacy 2. Avalanche had a past developing Disney titles, but after being absorbed by Warner Bros., not many of its existing IPs can be revisited.

Importantly, if Avalanche is in the hiring stage for this mysterious title, it's feasible that we could realistically see Hogwarts Legacy 2 around 2027 or 2028. That may be a while off, but hardly the massive wait we've had for GTA 6 or even the gap between The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II

There's been plenty of speculation that Hogwarts Legacy could spin out into a trilogy of games, with the school year timeline neatly lining up with the arrival of Albus Dumbledore in Hogwarts Legacy 3. This is all speculation, and while it might seem too early to be talking sequels, Warner Bros. has already teased them.

What's next for Hogwarts Legacy?

Remember, Hogwarts Legacy is gaining a new fan base, with the title's PS4 and Xbox One ports due on May 5, and a Nintendo Switch port (supposedly) on track for a July release. While we're not expecting these to come with all the bells and whistles of new-gen, it'll be interesting to see if we've ironed out the kinks.

Three new ports are expected to push sales through the roof, meaning we'd be surprised if Warner Bros. doesn't fast-track a sequel. Game Director Alan Tew said there are currently no plans for a Hogwarts Legacy DLC, and while that might still be the case, we imagine WB will milk this magical cow for all its worth.

Whether DLCs, Hogwarts Legacy 2, or something completely different, it's clear Avalanche is heading back to Potions class to brew up something new.
