Once you figure out how to catch fairies in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the game will likely get a bit easier. It's important, if you can, to have at least one fairy in your inventory as you progress through the game, as it's a handy way to keep you out of a jam, and allows you to play a little bit more recklessly.

What do fairies do in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Having a fairy in your inventory in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom means that you will be revived and brought back to full health after you die. This can only happen once per fairy as it will be consumed upon use, but it is an incredibly clutch tool that can save you in so many situations.

You do not need to cook the fairy or do anything else outside of just having it in your inventory, and it will be automatically consumed the next time that you die. This can sometimes be frustrating if it was used in a less-than-ideal situation, but it is more than made up for when you're fighting a tough boss or haven't saved in a while.

How to catch fairies in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Catching fairies in TOTK is a lot like taming a horse - you need to approach slowly and quietly as otherwise the fairies will fly away:

• Press the left analogue stick to crouch and slowly make your way toward a fairy.
• Once the prompt appears, press the A button to catch the fairy.
• That's it! Now it will be all yours.

Fairies in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are usually found in groups so you're likely to get another chance if you mess up and one flies away. If you approach with patience, however, you're going to be near-unkillable as you continue collecting them on your travels.

There is no one specific map location in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom where fairies will spawn, but they spawn most consistently on the Sky Islands and around pools of water.

Specifically, the three best places to look are the West Necluda Sky Archipelago, the South Hyrule Sky Archipelago, and Courage Island.

Another great place to look for fairies is down various wells - especially wells behind the numerous Stables dotted across Hyrule. Finally, the last most common spot is surrounding Great Fairy Fountains - but only once they have bloomed.
