Is it courteous to let a freestyler pop off in competitive play in Rocket League? Or, should they take their chain flip resets back to free play and private matches?

That's the debate in the community this week, as the one freestyler has taken to social media to complain about someone stealing his clip, despite the teammate having the better shot.

Rocket League players torn as freestyler has his clip stolen

Rocket League player "LFC_RL" shared a clip of him turning a musty flick into a double flip reset, but before they could add the final finesse into the net - albeit not an open goal - their teammate interfered by attacking the lay-up with a better angle.

Knowing that the skills take years of practice to hit in a Ranked lobby, the freestyler complained on Twitter, claiming that it was the "average solo queue experience."

Despite being 6-2 up in the game, the players actually forfeited the match in haste, losing their Elo when it was guaranteed to them with only 80 seconds left.

The clip has torn the community in half, with some players claiming that the player shouldn't be aiming for clips in Ranked, while others thought at 6-2 up it was quite warranted to go for something in the highlight reel.

"If I'm your teammate I'm doing the same sh*t the nets literally open," said content creator "Mizu."

Others players react to the controversial shot

OpTic Gaming's Austin "AYYJAYY" Aebi claimed it also looked like a pass, and even he'd had gone for the ball. Others claimed that with the scoreline being so wide, the player should have been allowed to "cook."

"6-2. Let him have his shot. What's wrong with people telling him he’s in the wrong?" said one fan.

The clip holder themself did play down the debate though, saying, "I fully understand why he went for the ball, I just thought it was funny that he also forfeited when we were 6-2 up".

"The caption was just for the memes," he added. Freestylers often find themselves in such debacles, maybe Rocket League could look at making a freestyling mode for such players to flex in.
