RLCS Winter Major 2023: Location, format, schedule, prize pool & more

With the World Championships qualification and seeding looming, the Rocket League championship Series' penultimate event in the 2022-23 calendar is upon us, and here's all you need to know about the location, teams, schedule, format, prize pool, and more.

RLCS Winter Major location

With the European duo of Jack "ApparentlyJack" Benton and Joe "Noly" Kidd taking to America alongside Nick "Chronic" Iwanski for Gen.G, the Fall split saw them head back towards home turf with a trip to Rotterdam.

Now though, their organisation will be the home soil for the RLCS Wainter Major 2023, as the event will be held in San Diego, United States.

The San Diego convention centre will host the 16 qualified teams, as the city will host a Rocket League LAN for the first time (previous trips to the United States saw Los Angeles, Dallas, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Newark, and most recently Fort Worth).

RLCS Winter Major will be incorporated into DreamHack San Diego

Having seen ESL and DreamHack be one of the main tournament organisers for the RLCS, the Winter Major will now become a part of the DreamHack San Diego 2023 festival.

The festival will also see a range of epsorts events be played out, including Fortnite (Build and No Build), Brawl Stars, Clash of Clans, and Magic: The Gathering.

Tickets are on sale for the RLCS Winter Major: San Diego through the DreamHack website.

Prices are as follows:

• BYOC LAN Pass
  • Standard: $109
    • The BYOC pass allows you to bring your own computer and have three-day access to the LAN activities.
  • Premium: $369
    • The Premium upgrade includes a better set-up and monitor specs alongside a $75 voucher for merch.
  • Founders: $599
    • The Founders upgrade loans you a 120hz monitor and gaming chair, and gives you better specs, access to the Founders lounge for food and drinks, and $100 for merch.
• Three-day pass
  • Standard: $89
  • Premium: $189
    • The Premium upgrade includes one-day event access and a $75 voucher.
• One-day event pass:
  • Friday: $39
  • Saturday: $42
  • Sunday: $42
• DreamHack Party: $20

Family passes for between two and six people can also be found on the DreamHack site.

RLCS Winter Major Schedule

The RLCS Winter Major 2023 will take place on April 7 to April 9.

The exact schedule has yet to have been released, with the three-day event likely to be split up between Group Stage matches, Playoffs, and the finals.

We will update this hub when the schedule is revealed.

RLCS Winter Major Format 

Teams have been placed into four groups, where they will play in a round-robin format with Bo5 matches. 

Group A

Group B

• Karmine Corp (EU)
• Team Vitality (EU)
• Dignitas (NA)
• Team Falcons (MENA)

Group C

• Team Secret (SAM)

• Ground Zero Gaming (OCE)
• Gaming Gladiators (APAC)

Group D

• Gen.G Mobil1 Racing (NA)
• Oxygen Exports (EU)
• Complexity (NA)
• Pioneers (OCE)

Teams will then qualify for a single elimination Playoff stage. Second and Third in each group will be placed in the first round and the first-place Group Stage teams will go straight to the Quarter-Finals.

RLCS Winter Major Prize Pool

There will be a total of $310,000 up for grabs in the Winter Major, with the lion's share going to first place.

The prize pool distribution is as follows:

• 1st: $100,000
• 2nd: $60,000
• 3rd-4th: $27,000
• 5th-8th: $12,000
• 9th-12th: $9,000
• 13th-16th: $3,000

Gen.G Mobil1 Racing go into the Major as reigning champions, but after a mishap for BDS, there will be one player with a World Championship medal on display for G1.
