Destiny 2 Tarnation: How to get & how to craft

The Destiny 2 Tarnation is a powerful grenade launcher that deserves a place in every Guardian's arsenal. Destiny 2 has a deep roster of weaponry to draw from, but also many situations throughout the game that call for many different kinds of weapons.

Tarnation is a useful grenade launcher for many situations, and it is fairly straightforward to get your hands on. Here is how to get and craft Tarnation in Destiny 2.

Tarnation is a reward for completing Wellspring activities. It isn't always available, but thankfully you can check when it is on the table. If you go to the Wellspring node on the Savathun's Throne World map, you can see the currently available rewards. Which weapon is on offer cycles every day, so if you don't see Tarnation there, try again another day.

When Tarnation is available, you can get it as a random drop from completing Wellspring activities. The odds of getting the weapon from regular or master difficulty seem to be similar, so you can stick with the easier, matchmade version. It may take a number of tries, but you should get a drop or two from a few attempts.

How to craft Tarnation in Destiny 2

Weapon crafting in Destiny 2 has changed a lot since it was introduced in The Witch Queen. Thankfully for the better, as the effort involved has been reduced. First and foremost, you will need to gain multiple Tarnations.

You need to gather Tarnations with deepsight resonance, otherwise known as a red border weapon. Any Tarnation you get that has a red border will allow you to extract the pattern and make progress toward crafting your own.

Thankfully, Tarnation only requires two deepsight extractions, as opposed to the five required by many other weapons. That said, the rarity of the weapon multiplied by the rarity of getting one with deepsight is so high that it can be tricky to get two of them randomly.

This is where a deepsight harmonizer can be very useful. These items can be used to give deepsight resonance to a weapon, allowing you to extract the pattern from any Tarnation. In this way, you can drastically reduce the amount of luck you need to get two Tarnations and extract patterns from both.
