If you pick Skarmory, you will encounter Skarmory, Vigoroth, and Swampert after completing the three Timed Research tasks in Part 2 of the Great League Greatness Timed Research. Additionally, you will receive ten Skarmory, Slakoth, and Mudkip Candy.

Selecting Trevenant and completing all the Part 2 Timed Research tasks will award you encounters with Trevenant, Noctowl, and Lanturn. Furthermore, you will get ten Phantump, Hoothoot, and Chinchou Candy.

The third team, led by Azumarill, also features Umbreon and Mandibuzz. If you opt for this path and finish the Part 2 Timed Research tasks, you will encounter all three of these prize Pokemon and net ten Marill, Eevee, and Vullaby Candy.

Aside from the different encounters and Candy rewards, the tasks and basic rewards for the three Great League Greatness Timed Research paths are identical. So, the only thing that should factor into your decision is the Pokemon and their associated Candy!

In most cases, the Skarmory team is the best of the three teams available to choose from in the Great League Greatness Timed Research. While all three teams feature some of the top-performing Pokemon in the Great League, Skarmory, Vigoroth, and Swampert, especially, are leading the Great League PvP rankings. And even if PvP isn't necessarily your forte, the Skarmory team is still the best path for collectors because Skarmory and Swampert can be Shiny, but none of the other paths offers opportunities to get Shiny Pokemon.

The only real reason to settle for the Trevenant or Azumarill teams is if you haven't already caught one or more of the Pokemon on these teams.
