Diablo 4 can be a tricky game for beginners, but the professional Twitch streamer Zizaran has shared a few tips that should help people get to grips with the ARPG.

Zizaran is a Norwegian streamer with almost a decade of experience in streaming Path of Exile, which is one of the best games like Diablo 4. With such a wealth of knowledge to pass along, he’s clearly someone who knows a thing or two about ARPGs such as Diablo 4.

Despite some fans expressing their lacklustre at the Season 1 offering in Diablo 4, there are still thousands of new players picking up the game every day. While this action-packed title mostly does a good job at introducing new mechanics slowly, things start to get trickier as you trudge towards the endgame.

With this in mind, Zizaran has put together a list of five essential tips that beginners should be aware of when picking up Diablo 4. Read on to learn them all.

Diablo 4 beginner tips: Picking the right playable class

Choosing the right class to play is imperative in Diablo 4, as it will dictate your playstyle and the skills you can use for the next several hundred hours. “There are currently 5 playing classes in Diablo 4, which are; Barbarian, Rogue, Sorcerer, Necromancer and Druid,” explains Zizaran.

“I would choose a class you feel more natural playing with, so have a test run with them all,” he continues. “Having done this myself, the class I enjoyed most was Rogue - as there was so much variety within the class and I felt like I could figure out the game more easily.”

However, Zizaran also explains that playing as a Sorcerer is not a bad shout, either. “I just found the class to not be as effective when attacking,” he says.

Diablo 4 beginner tips: Selling, Salvaging, Sourcing & Inventory

“It’s important to note that Diablo 4 does not have an item filter,” Zizaran says, “so be sure to steer away from White & Blue items as they aren’t of use except for right at the very start.

“You should mainly be picking up rare and legendary items, both to sell and to salvage, so I would recommend keeping these at the bottom right corner of your inventory so as to not vendor them. “

What’s more, Zizaran explains that there are a bunch of special veins and flowers that you can use to upgrade legendary items later down the line. Be sure to keep these close to your chest as you play through Diablo 4. Elites in this zone will also give you these so make sure you try to kill every elite you see,” he says.

As for how long you should continue salvaging, Zizaran reckons you should keep doing it until levels 50-60. “Depending on how often you craft, you may not need to salvage as much but you will need a large amount of gold,” he says.

Trading with other players is another great way to get some additional gold. This is made much easier when you’ve played multiple classes, so you have an awareness of what other gamers are using.

“There are even community-driven Discord servers where people buy and sell items for gold.”

Diablo 4 beginner tips: Farming

We’re not talking about the traditional type of farming here. Continuing his list of best Diablo 4 beginners tips, Zizaran explains how your approach to XP farming should be.

“Pre Season 1, it was much easier to run around in groups and reset dungeons quickly. However with the introduction of Nightmare Dungeons, strong builds are key,” Zizaran explains.

“To farm the max amount of XP, don’t go more than 4 levels above as you won’t reap the benefits and will make it harder for yourself.”

Diablo 4 beginner tips: Keeping healthy

Any damage you take in Diablo 4 doesn’t heal back over time, so you’ll need to utilise potions and skills to claw back some precious hit points. Zizaran explains how the whole system works, and how you can make the most of it: “To get more health potions you have to up your Renown.

“Blizzard has buffed Dungeon Completion, so I'd recommend doing all of them for some quick Renown.

“To upgrade your potions you will need a lot of herbs and materials. You will need these at the higher levels, and it's pretty important to not ignore herb patches you see while running on the overworld!”

Diablo 4 beginner tips: Gearing up

One of the most exciting things about Diablo 4 is finding new gear to equip. In another best beginner tip for Diablo 4, Zizaran explains his approach to gearing up: “My biggest tip would be to ensure you use Helltides to gear up as you go.”

Helltide gear is found in Mystery Chests, which can appear in a number of random locations during a Helltide event. It’s worth researching when these Helltide events are and looking up some of the popular locations. Otherwise, you can spend a lot of time wandering around the world of Diablo 4 aimlessly with no luck.

Glossary of Terms

Hopefully, Zizaran’s tips have helped you out somewhat on your beginner's journey through Diablo 4.

However, we understand that there are a lot of terms in Diablo 4 that will mean absolutely nothing to brand-new players. As such, Zizaran has provided a helpful glossary of unique terms that should help new players understand what the veterans are talking about.

Term Explanation
Classes Classes are the playable characters gamers can choose from.
Craft Crafting in Diablo 4 will be done through an Artisan system. In every Capital City, you will find four artisans: The Blacksmith, The Jeweler, The Alchemist, and The Occultist. Each artisan has unique abilities and functions.
Dungeon Completion Dungeons include objectives which can be completed in sequence, and usually involve a boss fight against one or more bosses. Dungeon completion grants the player renown.
Helltide The Helltide is a unique world event that lasts for one hour, morphing a region of Sanctuary into a hellish landscape. Zones affected by the Helltide feature Demonic enemies, spawn meteors as environmental hazards and increase the monster level of everything in the zone by two above your character's level.
Renown Renown is an additional currency earned largely through exploration and questing, giving players that engage with it some extremely valuable rewards, including additional Skill Points and increasing the maximum number of Healing Potions you can carry.
Salvaging Salvaging an item permanently destroys it, converting it into useful Materials based on the type of item and its rarity.
