First Red Dead Redemption remaster images reportedly leak online

Yee-haw, it looks like the rumours were right for once. Much like we heard plenty about Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake before it was officially announced, whispers of a Red Dead Redemption remake have been tumbleweeding into town.

Some 13 years after Rockstar gave us a successor to the forgotten Red Dead Revolver, it sounds like the Grand Theft Auto developer is saddling up and is ready to ride back into town with a new-gen remake of 2010 cowboy caper.

First Red Dead Redemption remake images possibly leaked

Instead of an announcement and months (if not years) of waiting, all signs point to the Red Dead Redemption remake launching in the second half of 2023. It's poised to be massive and has even caused the Alan Wake 2 devs to ask for it to be moved.

Over on the r/GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, there's a supposed info dump about what's on the way. As well as a supposed Spring 2024 release date, there apparently won't be a multiplayer option, but we'll be getting the beloved Undead Nightmare DLC included for our troubles.

The big one is a supposed first look at the game, with two screenshots showing what we could be in for. Although unverified, they appear to show the Red Dead Redemption remake, which looks like it's been built in the RDR2 engine.

Before you get too excited, the comments were quickly flooded with critics calling out the leak as a fraud. Having figured out where in the game these images game from, some speculated it's simply screenshots from Red Dead Redemption 2 that have been run through an upscaler.

Looking like a case of someone making something up for the clout, the OP has even deleted their account. Someone joked, "These are RDR2 screenshots and a laughably safe assumption of the remake's content. If your gonna fake screenshots of RDR1 remake, then at least try showing off Mexico." 

Even if this "first look" at a Red Dead Redemption remake is likely a fake, there's mounting evidence the title is out there. RDR hasn't appeared in any recent Rockstar sales, while ex-IGN editor Colin Moriarty claims to have seen proof it exists. With the Gamescom coming in August, we'll be tuning in to see if we get an announcement.
