Complexity become first-ever import RLCS Regional champions
All of the North American Rocket League esports haters are out in full force this weekend, as the Spring Cup - the first of three events in the final split of the season - has been won by an import team for the first team ever.
"Import players" are becoming increasingly common in Rocket League, as the esport evolves and matures, having seen more and more players follow in the footsteps of Pierre "Turbopolsa" Silvfer by changing regions.
Now, Turbo's avenue of emigrating to North America has stung the region, as Complexity has taken home the spoils.
Complexity win RLCS 22-23 Spring Cup NA, becoming first all-import team to win an event
Previously True Neutral, the roster of Cristian "ajg" Fernandez, Lautaro "Reysbull" Gusinsky, and Facundo "Shad" Vallerino moved to North America to chance down fame and fortune after dominating in South America throughout Season X, opening up a huge bidding war for their signatures.
With Complexity landing the roster, and bringing in Spanish player Cristain "crr" Fernandez to replace Shad, the roster has now made its biggest impact yet, by beating Gen.G in the North America Spring Cup.
Originating from Chile, Argentina, and Spain, respectively, the trio of Reysbull, ajg, and crr has become the first team in Rocket League history to field a complete import team and win an event,
Import players find success in RLCS 22-23 season
Fellow NA Spring Cup finalists also had two export players, who won Regionals and Majors in NA despite having Joe "Noly" Kidd and Jack "ApparentlyJack" Benson from the UK, but with American-born Nick "Chronic" Iwanski playing on home turf, they couldn't be classed as a full-import team.
The same also goes for APAC team Elevate (previously James Cheese), who also had two import players in Nelson "Virtuoso" Lasko (Ireland) and Cameron "Kamii" Ingram (New Zealand) in their roster accompanying the native Shogo "ReaLize" Ikeyama in multiple APAC championships.
With five out of six players in the NA Spring Cup final originating from outside of the United States, NA fans will be looking towards OpTic and FaZe Clan to step up their game in the penultimate Regional to put their homeland back on top.
