A snow day is the most magical day of any school-aged child's life. This is the basic premise of the newest South Park game, which was revealed at THQ Nordic Digital Showcase on 11 August.

South Park Snow Day takes a big step back from the single-player RPG elements of the franchise's previous video game offerings, instead seemingly opting to release a co-operative fighting game.

Featuring the core group of Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny, South Park Snow Day is due to be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC in 2024.

The new South Park game is completely different to the previous instalments

From what we have seen in the trailer, South Park Snow Day is taking a big step away from the two most popular franchise game releases.

With no more RPG elements and instead a rather chaotic four-player co-op battle the next game has drawn some attention from fans who are nervous about whether they will get on with Snow Day.

One fan said: “That's cool and all but I REALLY want another RPG like Stick of Truth!”

Others were more concerned about Snow Day being co-op, saying: “I really hope that there will also be a single-player or story mode, and not just based on multiplayer” and “Hopefully there will be another campaign-based game after this.”

The immediately obvious difference, however, comes with the graphics. Stepping away from the classic South Park 2D style, Snow Day is a 3D game.

South Park in 3D?

The 3D nature of the newest South Park video game has confused a lot of fans, with some stating that they hope it is only for the trailer.

This is unlikely to be the case as rumours of a 3D South Park game have been circulating since 2021 when a Bloomberg article shared that Parker and Stone were working on “a 3D video game that is set in the world of “South Park”.”

Snow Day will not be the first 3D South Park game, however. While the two most popular games, The Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole, are 2D and very well-liked for their ability to capture the essence and style of the show, previous South Park games have been 3D.

The 1998 N64 game South Park also featured and was praised for 3D graphics. Some fans wondered whether or not the newest game would be a remake of the classic N64 instalment, however, this does not currently seem to be the case.

While it is definitely different from the games we have become accustomed to, we will have to wait until more information is revealed to find out whether the 3D graphics will make or break South Park Snow Day.
