Well, that didn't take long, did it? Just weeks after we all kicked up a fuss about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's $70/£70 price tag, Nintendo's most ambitious Zelda game yet has just been given its first discount.

Switch games have never been known for their discounts, with Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild still hovering around their original price tags some five years later. Despite the controversy that Tears was getting a price hike from Nintendo's usual $60/£60, it's all blown over.

While we're sure most of you have been playing Tears of the Kingdom since launch - and are looking for something like the Zelda Randomizer to add a little more - others have been holding off until the game comes down in price a little. For those, you're in luck.

Although you're not exactly getting a bargain basement price for Tears of the Kingdom, Amazon has officially dropped its price to $59.86/£47.99. This isn't the only major retailer to offer similar deals, with other outlets having a similar dip in pricing. $60/£48 seems to be about right for the best deal you can get right now.

Even though there were plenty of disgruntled faces that we're paying more for a game that runs the same graphics as Breath of the Wild and hasn't materialised on a fictional Switch Pro/Switch 2, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser defended the decision

Is $70 the new normal for Nintendo?

Despite bucking the $70 trend for Nintendo, this hasn't put players off. Nintendo confirmed Tears of the Kingdom is the fastest-selling Zelda game in the franchise's 37-year history. Tears probably didn't need a discount, but to be honest, we're not complaining.

We've been warned that $70 could be the new normal for Nintendo, although titles will be taken on a case-by-case basisTears of the Kingdom definitely offered more bang for its buck, meaning even its harshest critics came to accept the $70 pricing.

Sony and Microsoft have doubled down on $70 being the new pricing structure for new-gen games, and while some might not class Tears as truly new-gen, that didn't stop Nintendo. With the big three now united on their pricing, we'll take discounts where we can get them.
